A proofreader is usually the last person to read a document before it is printed. As the definition points out, a proofreader does not change the text. A proofreader checks for spelling mistakes, typos and grammar mistakes. The faults are marked and explained with special marks so that the writer can make the necessary changes before printing the document.
Een proofreader leest een document als laatste nog eens door voordat het geprint wordt. Als proofreader is mijn taak uw document na te lezen en de laatste foutjes eruit te halen. Dit wil zeggen typ- en schrijffouten, grammaticale fouten en fouten tegen punctuatie. Een proofreader zal nooit het document aanpassen, maar eerder de fouten aanduiden zodat de schrijver van het document de nodige aanpassingen kan maken vooraleer dit geprint wordt.

An editor is responsible for checking facts, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. They are also responsible for ensuring that an article corresponds with in-house style guides, and feels polished and refined when done. As an editor, I will look at the flow of the document and make sure it has a logical progression. I will also make sure your texts are not cluttered and that the audience’s attention is guided to the text’s focus.
Editors zijn verantwoordelijk voor het nakijken van feiten, spelling, grammatica en punctuatie. Ook zorgen ze ervoor dat het document overeenkomt met de in-house stijlvoorschriften.
